If you had a choice to visit San Francisco or another city in the Bay area, which one would you choose? A majority of the holiday crowd would choose San Fran. But that’s not the only happening city in northern California. San Jose is an excellent option for a holiday and we will tell you why.
But first off, let us give you a few reasons San Francisco is a bad choice for a holiday.
It is expensive!
Everything is more expensive in San Fran than any other city in California. Meals are expensive, stay is expensive and the rides are expensive too. Due to the massive tourist crowd, prices have gone up on even the simplest of things like a bottle of water.
In addition, there is also a big crime problem due to homelessness, uncontrolled immigration and drug use. There are many areas in SF that are no-go for tourists. So, if possible avoid it altogether.
Now let us talk about the reasons why San Jose is a better holiday destination than San Francisco.
While SF attracts activists’ crowds from everywhere, San Jose attracts the business travellers. The weather in this city is warmer, thanks to Santa Clara Valley. Even in winter, the temperature rarely drops below 40 and so they say San Jose enjoys 300 days of sunshine.
Anyone who has been to SF knows it is a hill. San Jose is relatively flat and they have scenic bike trails like the one around the Guadalupe River. If you like to hike, the Santa Cruz Mountain is close enough for a day trip.
Thanks to the tech crowd, you will see a lot of unique businesses and start-ups operating within the city. It is less populated and their airport is less stressful than the SFO. So flying in and out is a breeze.
If you love Hockey, San Jose must be in your list because it is home for the San Jose Sharks. Though the team has never won the Stanley Cup, there is no dearth of die-hard followers. You can catch them at the SAP Center, in the downtown area. In addition, Levi’s Stadium is just a few hours drive from San Jose. And San Francisco 49ers play more often at Levi’s than the home city.
If you are a wine aficionado, you will love SJ. You can visit a dozen wineries in the area. Mountain Winery even hosts live concerts and tasting.
